Properties: bitter, acrid, cool

circulates qi, clears heat, disperses wind, resolves phlegm


Actions / Indications:
  • Descends LU qi; expels phlegm (cough, wheeze, thick sputum due to LU heat; can also be used for phlegm-damp or phlegm-cold)
  • Disperses exterior wind-heat (by dispersing LU qi, it treats wind-heat cough; also wind cold cough when combined with appropriate herbs)

    Special Notes:
  • Combine with with Chai Hu which helps descend qi in the LV.
  • Bai Qian treats phlegm cold and is commonly paired with Qian Hu, which treats phlegm heat, to treat cough.
