Actions / Indications:
  • Releases Exterior W/C; transforms damp, harmonizes middle jiao (use to expel wind-cold in the summer, "summertime ma huang", chills, fever, headache, no sweating, body aches; diarrhea: expels interior damp; induces sweating.
  • Promotes urination, reduces edema (strengthens SP to relieve edema, urinary difficulty; especially with exterior pattern)

  • (cc: according to some sources: drink cool to avoid vomiting)
  • (cooking: cook short time for exterior disorders; cook long and concentrated for edema)

    Special Notes:
  • It is commonly accepted that the herbs of choice to clear wind-cold from the exterior is Ma Huang in the winter and Xiang Ru in the summer.
