In terms of TCM nutrition, pecans have a flavor that is sweet and their temperature is slightly warm. They can help to tonify qi and enter the lung, large intestine, and kidney.

The Tao of Nutrition states that pecans may also help to stop chronic cough and relieve the following conditions: low back pain, poor libido, erectile dysfuntion, frequent urination, and constipation. [22]

For chronic cough take 1 tablespoon of ground powder made from pecans and apricot seed (apricot kernel) drink it with 1 cup of hot water, 2-3 times daily. For lower back pain soak pecan in sherry or port for one week or more, and heat a handful of the soaked pecans each day. For erectile dysfunction or low libido make a trail mix with equal parts of pecan, goji berry, raisin, and pistachios. Eat a handful daily.[22]

Contraindications: Pecans are contraindicated when diarrhea and/or dampness are present.
