Xiao Chai Hu Tang 小柴胡汤 - Minor Bupleurum Decoction |
formula: Raw Herbs |
|
Cooking Instructions: Decoct the raw herbal ingredients in 12 cups of water until reduced to 6 cups. Remove the ingredients and strain before decocting again down to 3 cups. Drink 1 cup of the decoction 3x per day. Drink while warm. Treats Eastern: Treats the lesser yang stage disease that is half interior, half exterior. The half exterior aspect is reflected in the alternating chills and fever and sensation of fullness in the chest or hypochodriac region due to heat in the lesser yang channels (liver/gallbladder). The interior aspect is reflected in dry mouth, throat, and dizziness. The third group of symptoms is when Gallbladder qi attacks the stomach resulting in heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and reduced bladder movement. Pulse is wiry, sometimes thing. This combination drains heat without causing it to sink deeper into the body. Some texts advise using less Chai Hu since some say that Chai Hu Treats Western: Symptoms may be unpredictable as they are not in a set place in the body. Modern physicians have used this formula in treating a variety of symptoms including childhood diarrhea, habitual constipation, renal colic, acute rheumatic fever, malaria, and gastritis from reflux of bile. With the appropriate presentation may be used to treat upper respiratory infection, influenza, bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, epidemic parotitis, jaundice, malaria, acute viral hepatitis, post partum fever, acute polyonephritis, cholecystitis, lymphadenitis, and intercostal neuralgia. |
